Name: UK Tide Times
Author: aircooled

Simple display of the most recent and two subsequent tidal events for the chosen UK location. Includes time and height (in metres).

Requires an internet connection via your phone to be able to connect to the tidal data service. The widget requires manual input of the desired tidal location as defined by the UK Hydrographic Office. Supported locations can be found at https://easytide.admiralty.co.uk, which has a map as well as a search function. Please note that due to restrictions in the data service, locations in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not supported.

To configure the widget you need to use the Connect IQ app on your phone. On the home page of the app you will see an icon for 'Device' in the bottom right corner. Tap on that, then 'My Device Apps', 'UK Tide Times Widget', Settings. The default location is Southampton - just tap on that to change it. Once finished you need to sync your settings to your phone.

When entering the location in Settings, there are two ways of doing it: by name, or by port id.

When searching by name, you need to enter it accurately. Partial matches are supported but may not return the actual location you need. If the widget displays “Invalid Location”, please try re-entering it.

There are a few instances of ports sharing similar names where searching by name may not return the one you want. To get around this, you can configure it by port id. To find the port id, search for your desired location on the EasyTide website (https://easytide.admiralty.co.uk), and once you’ve found it, take a look at the URL in your browser. There you will see the port id which consists of 4 digits, sometimes suffixed with a capital letter. Enter that value into the location name field.

For example, if you want the tidal data for Carsaig Bay and enter this into the name field, it will actually return the data for Carsaig Bay (Mull). Using the above approach, you can override this by entering the port id of 0387 in the location field and it will correctly return the tidal data for Carsaig Bay.

If the times and heights are displayed, but the values don’t appear as you might expect, the issue is almost certainly to do with the tidal data. For instance, the location at Hale Head doesn’t return low tides and so only high tides are displayed. You can check the values on the https://easytide.admiralty.co.uk website. Any issues with the data are completely outside our control.

Times are adjusted for Daylight Savings when relevant by default but this can be disabled in Settings.

*** IF YOU EXPERIENCE CONNECTION PROBLEMS ***
Occasionally there may be problems connecting from your watch via your phone to the tidal data service.
- If you see a message saying "Error connecting to the tidal data service”, this is either due to your phone not able to connect to the internet, or a problem with the tidal data service. The latter is completely outside our control. It is also likely to be temporary, so please try again later.
- You may also see “Connection error code: xx”. If ‘xx’ is a 3-digit positive number, this also relates to connecting to the tidal data service and is also likely to be temporary. If ‘xx’ is a negative number, it indicates a Bluetooth problem between your watch and your phone, even if everything else appears to be working normally. If the error code persists, the only solution I have found is to reset the Bluetooth pairing between the two.

If you like the widget, please leave a review or a rating. If you don’t, or have any problems, please contact me first. The widget is free of charge but has taken many hours of my own time and may not be perfect in all situations. I would prefer to know about the details so that I can help rather than receive negative reviews. Thank you.
